Erbium Laser

The Erbium Laser is the treatment of choice for the signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity and uneven pigmentation. Ideal for the face, neck, chest and hands, this revolutionary treatment restores healthy, younger-looking skin in just one or two treatments.

The Erbium Sciton ProFractional Laser treatment delivers a matrix of tiny beams of light energy to the top and mid layers of the skin. This works in several ways to reverse the signs of ageing. On the surface of the skin old epidermal cells are destroyed, removing superficial pigmentation. As the laser penetrates the dermis, microscopic channels are made, causing an immediate shrinkage of excess skin, while boosting collagen production in the deep layers of your skin, plumping the skin from the inside out.

This results in:

• Tightening of excess skin
• Softening of fine lines and wrinkles
• Removal of age and sun spots
• Production of new collagen

Before the treatment a local anaesthetic cream will be applied to the skin and left for approximately one hour. Panadeine Forte, and, if necessary, a Valium tablet will be given before treatment to reduce discomfort and anxiety. Local anaesthetic injections will also be given to further reduce any pain. As the laser is passed over your skin you will feel a warm to hot prickly sensation. Depending on your skin condition, 1-4 passes of the laser will be needed. Treatment time for a full face is approximately one hour.

For fine lines and light to moderate sun damage, excellent results will usually be seen after one treatment. For more advanced sun damage, ageing or scarring, two or more treatments are recommended.

Immediately after the treatment, the area will be cleaned and cooled and light coating of Vaseline will be applid to protect the skin. You will have a burning sensation similar to sunburn for several hours. Your skin will also feel tight, but in most cases, there will be little pain. There will be some mild swelling and sometimes pin-point bleeding, which will dry overnight. Your skin may show a fine pin-point pattern, a result of the fractional laser beams.

For up to a week after treatment you will see notable redness and moderate swelling, and prominent moisture or oozing from the area. A scale or crust on the skin surface generally develops next, peeling off after 4-6 days – it is extremely important not to pick or scratch at the peeling skin. From this point the redness will improve markedly, however some pinkness can persist for several weeks which is easily and safely covered with mineral makeup.

Improvement to the tone and texture of the skin should be seen after about a week and will continue to occur over some months as new collagen is produced.

Immediately after your treatment we recommend:

• Booking in for at least 2-3 Dimalux LED treatments to reduce redness and inflammation (this is included in your treatment price)

After the initial healing we recommend:

• Using Vitamin C, Vitamin B3 and Vitamin A serums on the skin as they are scientifically proven to aid rejuvenation
• Continued use of a high SPF sunscreen

In general, Sciton ProFraction Erbium Laser treatment is very safe, though as with any medical treatment, some side-effects can occur:

Expected

• Redness will be seen in the week after the treatment and can persist for some weeks.
• Weeping and crusting of the surface

Uncommon

• Cold sore outbreaks – anti viral medication will be provided to prevent this
• Mild acne breakouts can occur in susceptible individuals
• Itching during the healing phase

Rare

• Bacterial or fungal infections
• Loss of pigment or scarring
• Permanent increase in pigmentation

The price for an Erbium treatment ranges from $995 and increases based on the size of the surface area treated.

The price includes everything you need after your treatment including Dimalux LED Light therapy for two weeks, follow up consultations, soothing skin care, and anti-viral medication if needed, valued at $500.
