Fraxel Laser

Fraxel Laser, representing a new and innovative approach to skin treatment, is now available in Perth, Western Australia.  Fraxel Laser provides wonderful skin rejuvenation results with unparalleled safety and rapid recovery.

How does the treatment work?
Fraxel Laser produces microscopic columns of light that penetrate deep into the skin. This eliminates old epidermal pigmented cells, and stimulates collagen production in the deeper layers of the dermis.

These microscopic treatment zones are interspersed with areas of normal skin, meaning recovery is rapid and treatment is very safe. As only a small proportion of the skin is treated each time, best results are obtained with a course of between 3 and 5 treatments.

Fraxel Laser acts on both surface and deeper skin imperfections, so is beneficial for problems at both levels:

  • Superficial pigment disorders such as sunspots and age-related pigmentation and fine surface lines and wrinkles
  • Deeper dermal pigmentation such as hormonal pigmentation
  • Acne scarring
  • Deeper lines and wrinkles

What is the treatment like?
A thin layer of anaesthetic gel is applied to the skin, and left for about an hour. The laser is then passed over the skin surface. Fraxel treatment takes 20 - 30 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated.

Are there any side-effects?
Fraxel laser is very safe, and has been successfully used for all skin types including darker skins. Some side effects can occur, however these are rare, and include temporary blistering or an increase in pigmentation.

What should I expect after the treatment?
You will experience a mild sunburn sensation for about an hour and then minimal discomfort. The skin will have a pinkish tone for 3 to 5 days. This is a normal sign that the skin is healing. Swelling is usually minimal and generally resolves in 2 to 3 days.

New epidermal skin will develop within 24 hours. During this time your skin will have a bronzed appearance that lasts anywhere from 3 to 14 days, depending on your treatment level. Your skin will also naturally exfoliate as new skin replaces dead tissue, resulting in flaking similar to that of minor sunburn. The use of a moisturizer can mask this.

You may apply make-up or shave soon after treatment. While some patients are able to return to routine activities the same day of treatment, others require a little more time. Our Doctor will advise you on how Fraxel treatment will fit into your schedule.

It’s important to use sunscreen at least twice daily to protect your skin from sun exposure during both the healing phase and for several months after treatment.

Over the following weeks and months, the body repairs the deeper dermal tissues producing long lasting improvements and a healthy, youthful appearance.
