We
are all born with clear, smooth skin but over time,
sun exposure, ageing and some lifestyle factors cause
a range of blemishes to appear. Intense pulsed light
(IPL) is the safest and most effective treatment to
remove these imperfections, which include benign pigmented
lesions and vascular lesions.
Pigmented lesions
Sun spots, age spots and freckles, respond very well
to this therapy, and generally more than 95% fading is
achieved. IPL removes the areas of excess pigmentation
leaving the skin smooth and even-coloured. Single or
multiple treatments may be required.
Vascular lesions
These include superficial veins, broken capillaries,
and Rosacea. IPL can eliminate damaged veins and capillaries
without injuring the surrounding skin. Single or multiple
treatments may be required.
Collagen Stimulation
In addition to reducing or eliminating blemishes, IPL
acts on the dermis to stimulate collagen production.
The result is a reduction in fine lines and long-term
improvements to the tone and texture of your skin.
What should I expect after treatment?
A mild sunburn-like sensation is expected, usually
lasting less than an hour. Mild swelling and/or redness
may accompany
this which should resolve in 2—3 days.
Pigmented
lesion treatment: lesions will gradually turn
darker over the next 24 - 48 hours. It’s important
not to pick or scratch at these: they will fall off
naturally after 7—14 days.
Vascular Lesions: vessels
may change to a purple colour following treatment.
The skin becomes flushed and slightly
swollen. The vessel will then fully or partially fade
in about 10 –14 days.
After Treatment Skin Care
Moisturisers may be used as necessary, particularly
if there is any peeling of the skin. Sunscreen is
most important.
We recommend the daily use of an SPF 30+ sunscreen.
Make-up may be used for camouflage, but care must
be taken -
apply and remove gently.
We also recommend the use of a topical anti-oxidant for maximum rejuvenation and to protect your skin from future
UV damage. See the skin care page of our website.
