Four Steps to Healthy Skin for Teens

Thursday, March 16, 2017
Hysterical mood swings, crying, screaming, door slamming! It's completely understandable that you do all of these things when parenting your teen. God knows you're already the cab driver, negotiator, lion tamer and feeder, so let's make their skin care as quick and painless as possible.

The Teen Aspect Starter Kit was designed to create an uncomplicated skin care regime for the busy teenager. Best perforned morning and night, this simple regime will kick off a lifetime of healthy habits.

Teen Aspect Starter Kit (Cleanser, Toner, Lotion and Spot Stop) is this month's special at Skin Resus. For March only, you can order this pack for your troublesome/terrific teen for $45. (RRP $60)

Androgens (sex hormones) increase in boys and girls in their teens. Androgens cause the oil glands to become larger and produce more oil, or sebum.  When there's too much sebum the pores or hair cells become blocked with skin cells. These become reddened and inflamed and are prone to infection. Teen Aspect works to control the oil production, exfoliate dead skin cells, reduce inflammation and destroy bacteria.

Step 1: Cleanse

First, wash away the sweat, dirt, makeup and grime of the day. Teen Aspect Cleanser is a gentle foaming cleanser that removes all of these particles from the follicles. Simply apply to damp skin by rubbing in a circular motion, then rinse. It won’t strip or dry out the skin and is perfectly suited for oily, normal, problem skin types.

Step 2: Tone

Apply toner on a cotton swab and gently wipe over the face. Designed to effectively cut through residual oil and grime, Teen Aspect Toner ensures that key skin-changing actives reach their target. Mild on the skin, this toner won't strip or irritate and is fine for most skin types, except sensitive irritated skin. Pop in and see us and we'll advise you and your teen on something more suitable.

Step 3: Moisturise

Just two pumps of the Teen Aspect Facial Lotion onto the fingertips and gently massage into the skin. A light moisturiser, the Facial Lotion is packed with bacteria-targeting ingredients and soothing botanicals that provide teenagers' skin with additional protection, hydration and bacterial control. Great for all skin types.

Step 4: Spot Stop

Finally, Stop Spot is designed to be dabbed on to spots to quickly and affectively target them as they appear.

I love acne!

Saturday, September 05, 2015

I love acne! Pimples, spots, zits - whatever you call it, I love it... treating it that is. As someone who suffered from acne for most of my adult life, I understand very well the impact it can have. I remember days in my twenties when my skin was so bad I'd avoid saying hello to people because I felt too embarrassed.

I guess that's one of the reasons why I now really love treating people with acne. These days there really are some fantastic solutions for acne, from our Aspect Dr skin care (which is what cured my acne, after years of trying every skin care under the sun) to prescription skin care and our Dimalux LED light therapy. Reducing refined sugars in your diet can also help, as can Fish Oil supplements.

At Skin Resus we have a zero tolerance approach to acne and aim to see skin clear (ie no new acne outbreaks) within 4 weeks. We usually see an improvement within 2 weeks. The first place to start is with a free consultation with one of our Registered Nurses. We'll assess the severity and discuss treatment options. Mild acne will usually respond to our Aspect Dr skin care - usually the Problem Skin Kit + Multi B (Niacinamide) Serum. For moderate acne one of our Doctors will usually prescribe Duac Gel combined with a course of Dimalux LED light therapy. This is 2 sessions (1 red light, 1 blue light) per week for 4 weeks. For those with severe acne who are at risk of scarring, our Doctors may refer to a dermatologist for Roaccutane.

Before and After Acne Treatment at Skin Resus

We regularly see really great results with these approaches. If you suffer from acne or know someone who does, come in and talk to one of our team and let's clear it up! We can also help where acne scarring has occurred, with treatments such as IPL, MicroPen skin needling and Fraxel and Erbium Lasers. That's a whole other story so I'll write about that in my next blog.
