Picture Perfect Wedding

Congratulations on your engagement! Planning your wedding is such an exciting time; flowers, dresses, centrepieces... but what about you? Our beautiful Perth bride (or groom)?

This Dream Wedding series will let you know exactly what you can do and when to ensure you are the glowing bride you see in the magazines. Be sure to check back with us for updates to the series.

Twelve Months until I DO

Skin Consultation

We all want to look and feel beautiful, especially on our wedding day, so it's important to start planning your treatment regime with plenty of time.  Twelve months before the big day is a great time to come in for a free consultation.

Our Registered Nurses will instantly put you at ease as they talk to you about your face, skin and body concerns and will write you a personalised treatment plan advising which treatments would be best suited to you. This is a great time to have treatments that require a longer down-time, and start those that require multiple sessions!

Fraxel 1550 Laser

The Fraxel 1550 Laser treatments are great for deeper skin rejuvenation, acne scarring, and other scarring including chicken pox.  Fraxel 1550 heats deep into the dermis, stimulating the skin's healing response and stimulating collagen. As it is fractional, only a portion of the skin is treated each session so usually 3 - 5 treatments are required.

You can expect a down time of 5 - 7 days after Fraxel 1550, although some pinkness hue to the skin for a number of weeks (this is easily covered by mineral makeup). For more information, see our video and before and after Fraxel images. Best resuls appear 4 - 6 weeks after the treatments so starting now will give you plenty of time to smooth and brigthen your skin.

Erbium Laser

Erbium Laser offers a resurfacing treatment to erase fine lines, minimise deeper lines and scarring  and treat all forms of pigmentation. This is our strongest laser treatment and 7 - 10 days of down time (best friends only for the first week!) as you can expects redness, swelling and oozing. The pinkness to the skin can persist for several months (though is well covered with mineral makeup) which is why we recommend you think about it at least 6 months before any special event.

One treatment will usually give you great results, but for deeper lines or acne scarring some clients may need two to three. Our nurses can advise you on how many you  might need.

Due to the ability of Erbium Laser to target stubborn and advanced skin concerns, it is highly recommended for older clients who sunbaked before the Slip, Slop, Slap message was prominent. Look at our dramatic Erbium before and after pictures and see if this is the treatment for you. This is also a great treatment option for the Mother-Of-The-Bride who will also want to look fantastic for the day.

Tattoo Removal

Tattoos are no longer a rarity, with a large percentage of the population now sporting permanent ink designs on their skin. But if you've fallen out of love with your tattoo, we can help.

Getting ink in to your skin is quick, but removing it is a much slower process, and generally it takes ten to fourteen treatments to fully remove the design so the earlier you start before your wedding, the better! Black and red inks respond the best to our Revlite laser, while green and blue can take extra time, as can heavily pigmented cover ups.

Katie's CoolSculpting Experience

Friday, January 19, 2018

After attending an Advanced CoolSculpting Study Day on the east coast, I was given four cycles of CoolSculpting to use on myself when I got back to Skin Resus in Perth.

With new knowledge and skills about CoolSculpting, I was very excited to use these cycles on myself ASAP! The issue I had was, what area do I treat?

My upper arms have been an issue for me since I was about 17; even with exercise and weight loss in the past, the fat on my upper arms never wanted to shift (and by shift I wanted it to move out of town for good). I had even considered having some form of surgery to the area in order to reduce it to a size that would allow me to wear tops without sleeves and not feel like they were going to be on the front page of the newspaper as newly discovered “mass objects”. So the decision was made: I was going to have Coolsculpting on my arms!

On the day of my treatment I wasn’t nervous at all; I was excited and looking forward to getting it done so the process, called cryolipolysis, could begin.

When the applicator was applied, it was like a very strong vacuum cleaner getting caught on my arms, with a slight pinching and cooling sensation which I could easily deal with. I wouldn’t say I have a high pain tolerance at all, but I certainly found it bearable. After five minutes my upper arms went numb and I was completely comfortable as I watched a movie and on the iPad provided to pass the time. I wasn't in any discomfort, just restricted physically as I had to stay in one position during treatment.

The hour went by quickly and before I knew it, it was time for the applicator to be removed and the treated area to be massaged. This part of the treatment is said to be the most uncomfortable, and it defiantly was very achy; I felt like I had a large bruise being massaged. The massage is an essential part of the treatment and must be done thoroughly, but it only lasts a few minutes. I left feeling a little tired and my arms were cool, and numb to touch. I have quite long arms so for me, two cycles each side were needed, so the process was repeated until I'd had my four cycles.

Over the next few days I had swelling in the area, a little bit of bruising and my arms were tender to touch, but it did not stop me from carrying out any of my normal activities.

Results can usually be seen anywhere between 3-12 weeks after treatment, and I noticed it about 9-10 weeks post treatment when I found myself wearing a singlet top and not grabbing for my light cardigan to cover up. It dawned on me that this has done exactly what I wanted! My photos proved it and I am ecstatic with the results! If you’re looking for something that is minimal risk and minimal downtime, Coolsculpting is where it’s at.

5 Reasons to Fraxel

Wednesday, June 14, 2017

Dry wind, indoor heating and cold air can play havoc on our skin. You might have noticed flakey bits, tired-looking skin and an overall dry feel, as well as pigmentation lingering from the warmer months. As we prepare to snuggle inside for the Winter, it's the perfect time to give your skin a bit of TLC before you hibernate.

Here are 5 reasons to have a Fraxel Laser Rejuvenation so you can emerge from under the doona in spring like a beautiful butterfly.

  1. It's our June sale! Take 20% off your Fraxel treatment and so long as you book and pay in June, you can have the treatment anytime up until 31 August 2017.
  2. Winter is the perfect time to get Fraxel laser treatment. While your putting on your winter coat, shed your summer skin. Following a Fraxel treatment, the skin flakes , a little like a snake shedding it's skin. The skin underneath emerges looking radiant and rejuvenated.
  3. While we love the Perth sunshine, it does take its toll on our skin, especially our face, neck, décolletage (chest), fore arms and the backs of our hands. A Fraxel laser treatment will minimise sun spots, age spots, freckles, sun damage including the pre-cancerous skin condition, Acitinic Keratoses (AK's).
  4. Fraxel reduces scarring. Acne scarring, surgical scars, chicken pox scars and surface scars can be significantly reduced and even erased with Fraxel and the results are permanent!
  5. Smooth fine lines! Fraxel gives your skin an intense collagen stimulation, leaving your skin looking fresh, plump and radiant.

New LiLash Stockists in Perth!

Wednesday, May 10, 2017

I once woke from a night out. I looked in the mirror and saw an enormous black spider on my cheek. I frantically ran through the house screaming, hopping up and down and slapping myself in the face. I can still remember the stunned expression on my kids’ faces.

It turns out it was a false eyelash stuck to my cheek.

Let’s leave false eyelashes where they belong - in the 70s or beaten to a hairy little pulp in the bin in my kitchen.

We’re all fluttering our long luscious lashes with excitement at Skin Resus as proud LiBrow and LiLash stockists in Perth. LiLash is a line of serums that deliver long curly eyelashes and bold thick eyebrows in weeks - and it works.

Li Lash and Li Brow
  • It’s safe.
  • It’s easy to use.
  • Results in just a few weeks.
Li Lash Before and After

LiLash is physician-formulated serum that has been ophthalmologist tested, making it safe for those with sensitive eyes or contact lenses. (Does that mean it's tested on ophthalmologists instead of animals?)

How to use LiLash Eyelash Serum

  • Apply LiLash to clean, dry skin in the morning or at night.
  • Apply the LiLash along the lash line of your upper eyelid, as you would with liquid eyeliner).
  • Put it on the top lash only, as you blink it spreads to the lower lashes. Wait three minutes before putting on makeup.
LiLash Eyelash Serum is available in 3-month (2ml) or 6-month (4ml) treatment cycles. Perfectly portioned to eliminate waste

How to use LiBrow Serum
  • Apply LiBrow Serum to the skin under the arch of your eyebrow and directly onto sparse or patchy areas.
  • As with LiLash, wait three minutes before applying other products.
  • Botanical tinting agent gently and gradually darkens brow hair as it grows.
  • LiBrow is available in 3-month (3 mL) or 6-month (6 mL) treatment. Size perfectly portioned to eliminate waste.
  • Not tested on animals (I think we can thank the ophthalmologists for that).

Both LiLash and LiBrow are backed by a 90 Day Money Back Guarantee.

Did you pluck your eyebrows into oblivion in the 90s? Have you poked yourself in the eye with tweezers while applying strand-by-strand false eyelashes? Looking for LiLash Stockists in Perth?

Come and see us at Skin Resus, your LiLash stockists in Floreat, Perth. Check out the real life results on Instagram and Facebook #lilashworks

Dr David talks pigment...

Thursday, March 30, 2017

It has been a long time since I was in a nightclub, but you never forget the way the lights pick up your freckles. You can look positively infectious in this environment!

This is a practical demonstration on the way melanin in the skin absorbs UV and blue light. Melanin actually forms clusters around the DNA in the nucleus of our skin cells protecting it like bodyguards around a gangster!

Unfortunately, many of us are born with very little protection and our skin suffers with sun exposure.

Mottled and irregular pigmentation in the skin is a sign of UV damage and photo-ageing. Think of the Queen. Her skin shows age but no pigmentation - indeed natural pigment decreases in the skin with age.

But we get out of the palace a bit more than she does, and develop lentigines (flat irregular pigment spots), seborrhoeic keratoses (raised sometimes warty pigmented papules), naevi (moles), and melasma (hormonal pigmentation).

So prevention, we need to can the know how! We recommend that you use some form of sun protection every day. This might be in your makeup if you’re indoors all day, an SPF 30+ as a moisturiser when you are in and out, or an SPF 50+ for outdoor activities.

Skin Resus can help treat the abnormal pigmentation too. Intense Pulsed LIght (IPL) is excellent for superficial pigmentation and large areas such as full face and decolletage. For focal pigment issues we use our Revlite laser - this targets melanin selectively and safely and is excellent for lentigines. Thicker pigment spots may need our Erbium laser or cryotherapy, and diffuse pigment such as melasma does best with our Fraxel laser.

And lest we forget, we must put on our vitamins! Whilst there is pretty slim evidence that taking vitamins by mouth has any use, topical (applied to the skin) vitamin A, C and B3 have a growing body of evidence to support their benefits to the skin for anti-ageing and reduction of pigmentation problems.

Four Steps to Healthy Skin for Teens

Thursday, March 16, 2017
Hysterical mood swings, crying, screaming, door slamming! It's completely understandable that you do all of these things when parenting your teen. God knows you're already the cab driver, negotiator, lion tamer and feeder, so let's make their skin care as quick and painless as possible.

The Teen Aspect Starter Kit was designed to create an uncomplicated skin care regime for the busy teenager. Best perforned morning and night, this simple regime will kick off a lifetime of healthy habits.

Teen Aspect Starter Kit (Cleanser, Toner, Lotion and Spot Stop) is this month's special at Skin Resus. For March only, you can order this pack for your troublesome/terrific teen for $45. (RRP $60)

Androgens (sex hormones) increase in boys and girls in their teens. Androgens cause the oil glands to become larger and produce more oil, or sebum.  When there's too much sebum the pores or hair cells become blocked with skin cells. These become reddened and inflamed and are prone to infection. Teen Aspect works to control the oil production, exfoliate dead skin cells, reduce inflammation and destroy bacteria.

Step 1: Cleanse

First, wash away the sweat, dirt, makeup and grime of the day. Teen Aspect Cleanser is a gentle foaming cleanser that removes all of these particles from the follicles. Simply apply to damp skin by rubbing in a circular motion, then rinse. It won’t strip or dry out the skin and is perfectly suited for oily, normal, problem skin types.

Step 2: Tone

Apply toner on a cotton swab and gently wipe over the face. Designed to effectively cut through residual oil and grime, Teen Aspect Toner ensures that key skin-changing actives reach their target. Mild on the skin, this toner won't strip or irritate and is fine for most skin types, except sensitive irritated skin. Pop in and see us and we'll advise you and your teen on something more suitable.

Step 3: Moisturise

Just two pumps of the Teen Aspect Facial Lotion onto the fingertips and gently massage into the skin. A light moisturiser, the Facial Lotion is packed with bacteria-targeting ingredients and soothing botanicals that provide teenagers' skin with additional protection, hydration and bacterial control. Great for all skin types.

Step 4: Spot Stop

Finally, Stop Spot is designed to be dabbed on to spots to quickly and affectively target them as they appear.
Take a closer look at the Teen Aspect Kit in store or order online for $45 for March only!

Severe Acne

For more severe acne, we may recommend prescription skin care and a course of Dimalux LED Light Therapy. Come in for a free consultation with one of our Registered Nurses and they can advise on the best treatment for you or your teen.
