After living in Australia only 5 years I just couldn’t believe how much my back had been sun damaged. It’s hard to reach the back when applying sunscreen and summer time comes we’re all out walking and shopping in our little backless summer dresses and not realising the damage we are causing.
So I decided to have a photo rejuvenation on my back this Winter performed by the wonderful Ysobel. Photo rejuvenation is a non-invasive skin procedure utilising an intense pulse light machine (IPL). IPL differs from laser treatments as it offers a non-ablative solution to improving the texture, quality, colour and health of your skin. IPL is not a laser but a broad wavelength light that is pulsed onto the skin and can treat multiple conditions simultaneously; including broken veins and capillaries, redness of the skin, age spots, mottled pigmentation, benign brown pigment and freckles. I found it mildly uncomfortable and very warm afterwards - just like sunburn! The pigment darkened over 24 hours and stayed dark for about 10 days. It then just flaked off, leaving my back rejuvenated and free of sunspots. Winter time is perfect for the treatment as we are all covered from the sun. Usually 2- 3 treatments are needed, but I have to say I am more than happy with the one. I really disliked showing off my upper back but now I can’t wait to show it off... Bring on Summer!
