What is the Sciton Erbium Laser?

The Sciton Erbium uses a combined Erbium:YAG laser to deliver a matrix of tiny beams of light energy into the skin.

This works in several ways: on the surface of the skin old epidermal cells are destroyed, removing superficial pigmentation.  As the laser penetrates the dermis, microscopic channels are made, causing an immediate shrinkage of excess skin. Collagen production is boosted in the deep layers of your skin, plumping the skin from the inside out.

With the Sciton Erbium Laser, our doctor can carefully control over the size of the beam and the depth of treatment. In this way he can safely target anything from a very small skin tag to the full face, like in laser resurfacing.

What can be treated with the Erbium Laser?

It is very effective in the treatment of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne Scarring
  • Sun spots, age spots and skin tags
  • Tightening of excess skin
  • New collagen production

What is an Erbium Laser treatment like?

Erbium Spot Treatment

Erbium spot treatment is a simple procedure. Eye protection is first applied, and the area to be treated cleaned. After careful assessment by Dr Main, the laser is moved across the skin in a series of passes. With each pass the laser goes deeper into the skin, allowing Dr Main to precisely remove the lesion without affecting the healthy skin. A single spot treatment is very fast and can usually be done comfortably with no anaesthetic. Where there are several spots to be treated, a local anaesthetic cream will be applied.

After the treatment, there will be some light scabbing on the spots, which will flake off after 5 - 7 days on the face. Spots on the back, chest, hands or arms will take 10 - 14 days to shed. Suns protection and a good sunscreen SPF 30+ is important at this stage to prevent the pigment returning.

Erbium Laser Resurfacing

Erbium laser resurfacing is a treatment to reduce facial wrinkles and skin irregularities, such as pigmentation or acne scars. In our Perth clinic it is very popular for treating lines around the the eyes and the mouth, and great results are usually seen after one treatment. Most people choose to have their full face resurfaced for a uniform rejuvenated appearance. If preferred, localised areas such as under the eyes or the upper lip can be resurfaced alone. This will be discussed in your initial consultation. Read more about Erbium Laser Resurfacing.

Before and After Erbium Laser Resurfacing*

The down time after Erbium Laser Resurfacing is 7 - 10 days. Makeup cannot be worn until after day 7. Redness is expected for 6 weeks after laser resurfacing, but after the first week makeup can be worn. We recommend Jane Iredale mineral makeup, which does not harbour bacteria and contains a physical SPF 20. It's a beautiful makeup which is great for everyday, and nothing covers redness like it.

Who does the Erbium Laser treatment?

In our Perth clinic, the Erbium laser is operated by Dr David Main. Dr Main has years of experience with ablative lasers, and has done hundreds of treatments using both the CO2 and the Erbium Lasers.

How much does Erbium Laser treatment cost?

The price for Erbium Laser treatment depends on the areas treated.
